Helping the Government Kennel Cats

Since March 2004 we have become involved in rescuing cats and kittens from the government kennels, the majority of which need medical care with many requiring hospitalization at our recommended veterinary clinics.   These cats like the ones we rescue directly from the streets are in truth street cats, though those that have survived have been extremely affectionate and easily homed, which leads us to wonder if at some time in their lives they were domestic pets.

We would like to continue rescuing the likes of Buster, Vinnie, Bluebell, Elmo, Edgar and the Sam and Frodo's of this world to name but a few, as well as aiding those that sometimes don't make it, as we at HK Alley Cat Watch believe that every cat is deserving of a chance at life.

The kennel cats in particular pull at our heart strings as unlike those living on our streets, their fate is sealed.    Because of this we would love to devote more of our time and energy in helping them but it's not always possible to meet the high costs of medical treatment they require.   In not knowing the history of any of the cats we rescue, it is crucial that precautions are taken to ensure a period of isolation or quarantine to avoid transmission of any infectious diseases, which is where foster rooms are greatly sought after.   If you would like to join us in our mission to help rehome these cats please contact us to get involved.

We wish to thank the staff at the Pokfulam Animal Centre who continue to help us save some of the cats brought into their Pokfulam Centre.

It's a harsh reality of life that sadly many of the cats that arrive at the kennels are destroyed.   We lend our support in controlling the street cat population in Hong Kong through trap, neuter, release.   What is even more upsetting is to see cats with cat collars, as undoubtedly they were once pets.

On a positive front, here are some pictures of some of the cats we've rescued from the kennels.   We still have some looking for homes in our Adoption Gallery:
